Through many years of working in the automotive industry, our team of technical specialists have the relevant experience necessary to offer advice in respect of product selection and treat rates in order to help deliver optimum engine oil performance.
To support the formulator in meeting new and evolving standards, we can offer a premium range of high performance products for the above applications.
The introduction of the new GF5 standard by the International Lubricants Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) has added to the fuel economy requirements already specified by global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) standards; providing evidence of an industry wide desire for ever-more fuel efficient engine oils and a challenge for the formulator. However, it is no-longer enough for engine oils to be fuel efficient when first used; the ILSAC GF-5 standard now requires that engine oils remain fuel efficient over an extended period of time. It is therefore important that lubricant components retain their intrinsic properties even under severe operating conditions.
The selection of organic friction modifiers for engine oils is greatly influenced by the base oil and the additive composition of the engine oil. For engine oils based on Group II and Group III base oils, we recommend the use of PerfadTM FM 3336 and Perfad FM 3339, although some formulators may find that other organic friction modifiers from our range are better suited to their specific formulations.
Perfad FM 3336 and Perfad FM 3339 are second generation organic friction modifiers which can deliver fuel economy improvements. This has been demonstrated using the M111 Fuel Economy Test.
As shown in the graph to the left, both Perfad FM 3336 and Perfad FM 3339 showed superior fuel economy improvement compared to Priolube 1407, a glycerol mono-oleate (GMO) in a 5W30 engine oil formulation.
We have recently developed a new range of polymeric organic friction modifiers with outstandingly low friction properties. A SAPs free additive, it offers new opportunities to develop high performance fuel efficient engine oils.
