How We Test Our Products

With laboratory facilities located in Europe, North America and Asia, our capabilities go beyond providing quality synthetic base oils and additives.

Using a wide range of modern laboratory equipment we can accurately demonstrate the key properties and benefits of our base oils and additives across in a wide range of applications.

We have the ability to carry-out tests according to standard methods but we take great pride in our ability to design new and novel methods, which allows us to test our products and our customers ‘ products in unique ways, helping to speed up new product development, cost effectively.

Note: We do not provide testing as a service and we do not sell testing equipment; it is to accumulate product data and help solve our customer formulation problems. Contact us for more information.

  • 3D Profilometer
    produces a 3 dimensional representation of a surface by measuring the principles of interferometry. The surface of any test piece can be mapped to nanometre precision using this instrument.

  • Cloud and Pour Point Analyser
    measures the cloud and pour point temperatures of fluids during cooling.
  • Clutch rig
    is an in-house test rig used to evaluate friction and friction durability of lubricants used in applications that require a lubricated clutch.
  • Cold Cranking Simulator (CCS)
    measures the apparent viscosity of oils at temperatures from –35°C to –5°C.

  • Demulsification Rig
    enables the demulsification properties of lubricants to be easily differentiated.

  • Four Ball Machine
    provides an evaluation of the anti-wear and extreme pressure properties of fluid lubricants and greases in sliding contacts.

  • High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR)
    is a reciprocating tribometer, initially designed for analysing the lubricity of diesel fuels. It is now used to screen the lubrication performance of engine oils and additives which are active in boundary lubrication.
  • High Pressure Differential Scanning Calorimetry (HPDSC)
    is a thermal analysis technique that looks at how a material’s heat capacity (Cp) changes with temperature in the presence of oxygen, air or an inert gas.
  • High Temperature High Shear Viscometer
    is a multi-cell viscometer for viscosity testing of engine oils and base oils at high temperature and high shear. It meets all precision specifications of ASTM D5481 and SAE J300.

  • Laser Diffraction Particle Sizing (Malvern Mastersizer)
    uses laser diffraction techniques to measure the size of particles that could be suspensions of solid particles, emulsion droplets, or even dry powders.
M
  • Microtap Tapping Torque Machine
    measures the torque required to tap a pre drilled hole. Used for metalworking to monitor the lubrication performance of in-use lubricating oils and emulsions.
  • Mini Traction Machine (MTM)
    is a multi-purpose instrument for measuring friction and traction properties of lubricated and unlubricated surface contacts, under a wide range of rolling and sliding conditions.

  • Reichert: Friction and Wear
    consists of a rigidly-mounted test roll, which presses against a revolving friction wheel by means of a weighted lever. The friction wheel is semi immersed in test fluid and its rotating speed is measured.
S
  • SRV Machine
    is used to evaluate friction and wear properties of liquid lubricants and greases in a variety of sliding contacts. Standardised test specimens and genuine manufactured components can be used.
T
  • Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA)
    a technique in which the mass of a substance is monitored as a function of temperature or time as the sample specimen is subjected to a controlled temperature program in a controlled atmosphere.
V
  • Viscometers
    measure the dynamic viscosity of a fluid, which is the viscosity determined under shearing conditions.
